2020
13 photosThe Lockdown Era
Here are some photos I took in 2020, the year of the Covid-19 pandemic and global lockdowns. Thankfully, I had a backyard to escape to.
This is what I wrote for an article on photography during 2020 for TheLovepost:
The lockdown initially slowed down my photography activities, but that did not last long. While I couldn’t go out and about on the streets, I found an amazing, colourful world that I hadn’t noticed before right in my backyard.
I started to notice more solitary bees visiting the plants, and spent more time observing them. The best part was probably seeing, and photographing, the teddy bear bee and neon cuckoo bee for the first time.
There were also the smaller ones, like Hylaeus sp., also known as masked bees, and Lasioglossum (Homalictus) sp. I also discovered a few new bee-spotting spots around the house and began arranging the plants to make photographing them a little easier.
2020 was also the year I started experimenting with a $10 vintage flash I found at Salvos. It was tricky to use, but it definitely got me more interested in playing around with lighting.
